This series was shot on my trip to Calgary Alberta to visit my cousin who live on Tsuu T'ina Nation 145 reservation. Images depict family interaction, medicine teachings, cultural practices and activism. This was my first time living on a reservation and I documented my experience with my 35mm film camera. My cousins who are also Afro Indigenous shared stories of their upbrings and hardships. We discussed our experiences of not being acknowledged or accepted into Indigenous communities and by the Canadian Government due to being mixed with Black heritage. Our Indigeneity is often questioned and we feel the need to prove to people that we are. This series demonstrates that we as, Black Indigenous people exist and are practicing our culture.
